When you think of Finland, you probably think of snow, winter, and the cold! All very accurate images of Finland, but there is no place quite like Oulu, Finland. It is the northern capital of Finland; and yes, there is a long winter, a lot of snow, and it’s very cold! Most people might want to just cuddle up inside, and although that is a fond enjoyable aspect of Oulu, getting outdoors won’t disappoint. There are four breath taking adventures that are a must do to make the most of winter.

The Lake Plunge and Sauna
This may not be the most appealing choice, but definitely a must do. A very Finnish tradition to find a whole in the ice, jump in, for at least 10 seconds, and then run into the sauna to warm up. Then when you are about to sweat to death, you return to the lake. It is chilly, but exhilarating and totally something to give a go!

Husky Dog Sled
Located in the southern area of Oulu, Finland, is a husky farm. You show up and you have a warm welcome followed by a fun ride through the woods with the dogs pulling you along. You then get to meet and greet all the dogs and play with the cutest little pups! Enjoy some Finnish hot juice and warm up!

Reindeer Farms
This is a fun activity for the whole family. Similar to a Yellow Stone experience you drive through a reindeer farm and get to experience beautiful sights! You can also enjoy another ride in a sleigh, just like Santa and his reindeer!

Northern Lights
This is probably one of my favorite parts of Oulu! The chance to see the Northern Lights is the best part! During the months of January to April you have the chance to see these green ribbons float across the sky! It is truly incredible and it is an experience you will never forget!
