Finland is a beautiful Nordic county located between Russia and Sweden. During my time there, I had the privilege of living in four different cities. Even though I visited many different cities and thoroughly enjoyed each of them; the cities that I lived in have a special spot in my heart. These four cities are Turku, Helsinki, Lahti, and Oulu. Each of them differs in rich history and beautiful scenery. Beginning with my first city in Finland, we move to Turku. It may also be the hardest to pronounce for those who don’t speak Finnish. Turku is the oldest city in Finland. It has cobble stone streets, and tons of history. It was actually the original capital of Finland before being moved to Helsinki. There are two main components that Turku is known for. The first is the Turku Castle. Like many cities in Finland there is a beautiful castle there and you can explore it at your will, included with your very own dress up room to make you feel like you live in the castle! The next is the Turku River. It runs down the middle of the city and has absolutely beautiful sites. It is especially fun to dine in one of the many boat restaurants found on top of the river. Next is the capital itself. The Grand Helsinki. This is a center point for Finland with lots going on and lots to see! Tons of famous old churches and museums live in Helsinki. Lahti is a little further north than Helsinki and Turku and a whole lot small. Here is found famous Ski Jumps. That are so tall you cannot believe it! The best part is that during the summer you can visit the top for a stunning view. The last city is Oulu. Oulu is a main city in northern Finland. Complete with dog sled rides and reindeer farms, it is not a place to miss! And even though learning about the wonderful cities is fun, it is also good to learn about the culture of the Finnish people as well. Check that section out for recipes, fun facts, and traditions.
